I’m writing this in the Lake District, where I spent many bank holiday weekends as a kid. It’s been lovely, slowing down the pace, wearing hoodies and jeans and eating amazing local food (the Lakes is a food-loving person’s paradise). I feel so lucky to be able to spend the weekend here, and this whole weekend has felt like a funday, as my new jumper will tell anyone who looks. As much as August bank holiday is a time when everyone is trying to squeeze the very last out of summer, I start getting REALLY excited about autumn, my favourite…

Hi gang, I hope you all had lovely weekends. I had a goodun. Some of my favourite people came to stay at the flat, we went to an engagement party and cooked an almighty breakfast today. So those were the highlights. The lowlight was me going over on my foot outside H&M and crying in the street. I’m definitely in that post-op recovery place of getting a wee bit too bold on the crutches because it’s feeling better, but there will be the odd mishap along the way. I’m still in recovery from the operation, but it’s lovely to be back writing again. Here are seven things I’ve enjoyed during my convalescence. I’m back! I took a slightly extended break from actualanna, life took over a bit this summer with a lot of travelling and before I knew it it’s October and definitely time to embrace that ‘back to school’ feeling I love so much in autumn and knuckle down to some writing again. I’ve even bought some glasses for the occasion. I’ve always loved that ‘new pencil case, new start’ feeling you get at this time of year. Even though this should be something like my 20th #STOAS (it’s only my 11th – oops!) I am giving up beating myself up for…

I sit writing this on a balcony in front of the most beautiful view of a Devon beach. I am on holiday and it feels reeeeeally good. I’m spending a week with my family in a couple of tiny hamlets on the border between Devon and Cornwall. I can’t describe how stunning and THERAPEUTIC it is here. After 14 years of coming on family breaks I can firmly say it is one of my top three happy places. I mean, just LOOK AT THE VIEW. I hope this week has been kind to you. Look out for a travel post…
